Besides rent, energy, water and sometimes service costs, tenants also pay local taxes. These include waste collection levy, water board tax and, in a number of municipalities, sewerage levy. The costs differ per municipality. It is possible that the landlord pays this for you and deducts it from the service costs. This is often the case with non-self-contained (room) rentals. It is also possible that you have to settle this directly with the municipality. This is often the case with self-contained accommodation. People with a low income and little money may be eligible for a waiver.
